Evaluation of the judging panel through the use of CUBA

12th IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN ATHLETICS berlin 2009 USES CUBA MULTICHANNEL RECORDING SOFTWARE FOR EVALUATION OF JUDGING PANEL

The CUBA Broadcast Suite of the software company PACE Media Development GmbH was used at the 12th IAAF World Championship in Athletics berlin 2009™ between 15 - 23 August 2009. CUBA, a playout and real-time graphics system, produced by PACE Media Development GmbH, recorded all top sporting performances with network-enabled surveillance cameras. The recorded video data could be used in this way as verification on demand, if objections were raised against refereeing decisions. The organizer of the major sporting event was the International Association of Athletics Federations IAAF and the Berlin Organizing Committee 2009 GmbH (BOC)

Martin Schröder, CEO of PACE Media Development GmbH explained the concept as follows: “The World Athletics Championship was another chance to show what possibilities our playout system solutions can offer. On this project, PACE worked with CUBA to record and to archive all competitions to support the referees in decision-making if anything was unclear or appealed the decisions.”

Stephan Sandner, Technical Adviser to Media Operations at FIFA, UEFA and BOC 2009: “Throughout our experience working with CUBA solutions on different projects, we have grown to appreciate and rely on them. For example, CUBA product solutions were used in the successful broadcasting of the UEFA EURO 2008™ in Vienna and the Confederation Cup 2009 in South Africa as a high-quality closed circuit playout solution. At the World Championship in Athletics 2009 CUBA acted as a digital archiving system and has proven its excellence in service.”

This year at the international event about 1,800 athletes from 213 member federations fought for medals in 47 disciplines. About 3,000 officials, coaches, physiotherapists and carers accompanied the athletes. 3,500 media representatives reported around the world on the exciting competitions in Berlin. About 500,000 tickets were available for the events in the Olympic Stadium.
